I awoke this morning in a cold sweat
My heart still racing from the fear of my nightmare
Not remembering
where I was I fell out of bed
So face to my mirror I stared.
It is moments like these that are rare in life
When you see inside of your soul
My guarded reality did not have time to reset so,
The true picture of my
soul the mirror on the floor stole.
What I saw was not only fear but something unexpected as well
I saw
a new brand of strength growing on the side.
It is usually hidden by tired crying eyes
But awakening so suddenly
it didn’t have time to hide.
My pajama top was open a few buttons down
Something else was peeking
around
It looked like a strong beam something hard and strong
I think its my “back bone” I have finally
found!
Have I been so afraid of failing and losing the fight,
That I have kept myself so busy with fear
that I forgot to turn on the light?
Am I really a strong, smart, independent woman,
Who really does not need a
man to make everything alright?
In moments like these that are so rare and unexpected,
I also learned another
lesson I guess you could say is a blessing.
Once you get the chance to sneak a peek at your soul,
And you work
at making the pieces of your life whole,
There is no turning back!
